CONGRATULATIONS to Cierra Payne

The EPHB Music Award Board is thrilled to announce our 2025 winner, Cierra Nariko Payne from Smithfield High School!
Cierra is a vocalist, with a focus on Musical Theatre. She began her musical journey in 6th grade as a member of her school chorus, and throughout high scjool she was an active member of the Smithfield choir. As a Mezzo Soprano, Cierra enjoyed being able to refine her skills within her vocal range, while also collaborating with the full ensemble.
It was her discovery of musical Theatre, however, that let her discover her true self and opened her eyes to her future. In her application essay she wrote, “I have been able to find my voice, my light, and myself within this beautiful art form.” Once she found her passion and purpose in Theatre, she used her skills to make a difference among her peers and in the wider community. She also took advantage of additional vocal training and participated in the National Student Leadership Conference on Theater at Columbia University in 2023.
In addition to her talent and skills, Cierra’s dedication to supporting others is evident in her sponsor’s recommendation letter. Her words say it best: “You will not find a more dedicated, kind and supportive individual than Cierra. She deserves this award not only because of her talent, but also because of the type of person she is.”
Cierra will use her $500 scholarship to support her future musical journey while attending the American Musical Dramatic Academy’s College of Performing Arts in the Fall. Congratulations, Cierra!
